Setting the Stage at Boise State’s Morrison Center

A commercial floor coating upgrade for one of Idaho’s most iconic performance venues

When Boise State University reached out about coating the exposed concrete floors inside the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts, we knew it would be one of our largest and most technical commercial floor coating installations to date. This high-profile space required a finish that would hold up to heavy foot traffic while blending in seamlessly with the theater’s darkened interior.

We were honored to be trusted with the job—and ready for the challenge.

The Scope

Two seating levels and thousands of square feet of concrete

This project included both the main floor (orchestra level) and the upper level (mezzanine seating) of the theater. Combined, these areas serve nearly 2,000 guests and feature wide walkways of exposed concrete that required a tough, non-slip coating system.

Working during the summer “off-season” allowed us the time needed to complete this large-scale installation without disrupting performances. Our five-man team stayed onsite daily to maintain momentum and ensure the project stayed on track from start to finish.

The System

Built for durability, performance, and a clean matte finish

We followed a multi-layer commercial coating process designed for lasting performance in high-use public spaces:

  • Concrete Prep: Aggressive sanding and surface cleaning to remove wax, sealers, and dirt for optimal adhesion.

  • Epoxy Bonding Primer: A commercial-grade epoxy primer tinted black, providing a strong base layer.

  • Custom Epoxy Mid-Coat: An additional layer of epoxy, custom-tinted in Iron Ore, added durability and uniformity.

  • Urethane Topcoat: A satin/matte urethane finish completed the system, with the option for a non-skid additive to enhance safety.

Every square foot was coated with care—even in tight areas around fixed seating.

The Impact

Sleek, seamless, and built to last

The finished floors now offer a clean, polished look that blends perfectly into the Morrison Center’s performance space. More importantly, the surface is durable enough to withstand constant wear from guests, performers, and staff for years to come.
