Non-Slip Commercial Kitchen Floor Coating | Garden City, Idaho

September 5, 2025

Spray ’n Coat Painting was recently hired to upgrade the kitchen flooring at an iconic landmark hotel along the Boise River in Garden City. As one of the largest hospitality properties in the Treasure Valley, the kitchen needed a flooring system that could withstand constant use, frequent cleaning, and the demands of a fast-paced environment. The existing tile surface had become slippery and unsafe, and our goal was to install a waterproof, non-slip system that would keep staff safe while standing up to years of heavy use.

The Scope

This project covered roughly 760 square feet of commercial kitchen flooring. To prepare for a new non-slip commercial kitchen floor coating, our team ground the old epoxy layer all the way down to the tile, creating the strongest possible base for adhesion. From there, the focus was on installing a seamless system that offered durability, slip resistance, and long-term performance in one of the Boise Metro area’s busiest hotel kitchens.

The System

  • Surface Prep: Old epoxy was fully ground away to expose the tile, ensuring maximum bond strength.

  • Urethane Cement Base: A high-performance urethane cement system was applied at approximately 3/16-inch thickness, providing impact resistance, thermal shock protection, and antimicrobial benefits.

  • Silica Sand Broadcast: Silica sand was broadcast into the system to add durability and traction.

Epoxy Topcoat with Traction Additive: The floor was sealed with a chemical-resistant epoxy topcoat, enhanced with a polycarbonate traction additive for extra slip resistance in wet conditions.

The Impact

The completed floor is seamless, waterproof, and built for daily use in a demanding commercial kitchen environment. Staff now have a safer, slip-resistant surface that stands up to heavy foot traffic, temperature swings, and frequent cleaning. For this iconic Boise River hotel, the upgrade provides a long-lasting solution that improves safety, functionality, and efficiency for years to come.
