Installing a waterproof, non-slip system in a busy commercial kitchen in Garden City
Riverside Hotel
The Scope
At the Riverside Hotel in Garden City, the kitchen floors needed an upgrade that could handle constant traffic, spills, and the demands of a fast-paced hospitality environment. The existing tile surface had become slippery and posed a safety hazard for staff working in the kitchen. This project included installing a new waterproof, non-slip commercial kitchen floor coating system across roughly 760 square feet of space. To prepare the surface, our team ground down the old epoxy layer all the way to the tile for the strongest bond possible.
The System
For long-term performance, we installed a urethane cement system known as ThermaKrete® HP—a three-component cementitious polyurethane slurry designed to bond directly to tile floors. Unlike standard epoxy, this system offers impact resistance, thermal shock protection, and anti-microbial benefits, making it ideal for commercial kitchens.
The system was applied at approximately 3/16-inch thickness before broadcasting silica sand for additional strength and texture. We finished the installation with a chemical-resistant epoxy topcoat enhanced with a polycarbonate traction additive, ensuring extra slip resistance in the hotel’s wet, high-use environment.
The Impact
The result is a seamless, easy-to-clean floor designed to perform under the most demanding conditions. The Riverside Hotel kitchen now has a durable system that not only withstands heavy foot traffic, temperature swings, and daily cleaning, but also eliminates the slip hazard of the old tile floor—helping staff work safely and efficiently.
