Our Humble Beginnings
Spray ‘n Coat Painting has roots that date back to May of 1980 when Mark’s dad, Rod, first started M&R Painting. Rod started painting in Montana where he grew up, and kept with it when he moved his family to Idaho in 1984. Using homemade scaffolding and the help of his wife, Marcella, Rod painted nearly 40-foot-tall barns along with homes for just about anyone who would put them to work.
Both Rod and Marcella grew up on farms, which instilled in them a solid work ethic and meant they were raised with the idea that, “If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” With three young children by 1986, Rod certainly had a family to feed, and if you’ve met his son Mark, you know that was a big task! Rod continued painting through the ‘80s and early ‘90s until he was finally able to follow his call in to Christian ministry on a full time basis and hang up his painting brush.
The Next Generation
About a decade later, as Mark was graduating from high school in Pocatello, Rod decided it was time to pass on some of the skills he had learned in painting. Mark and Rod painted a couple homes and pretty soon Mark was on his own, painting homes in the summers to pay for tuition at Idaho State University. Still using the name M&R Painting, Mark painted close to 50 homes while earning his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He graduated without any student loan debt thanks to hard work that he learned from his father.
In the summer of 2009, Mark married his college sweetheart and found himself without a job as his then-employer closed its doors in the height of the recession. With a new family to provide for and no job, Mark fell back on his painting experience and started Spray ‘n Coat Painting in Boise. Without a bunch of money to spend on advertising, Mark did the only thing he knew how to do: knocked on neighbors’ doors, offering his services.
While starting from scratch isn’t easy, Mark’s ability to provide high quality painting and unforgettable customer service saw Spray ‘n Coat Painting begin to take off. By 2012, the company was painting more than 100 homes a year, and has continued to grow every year since. The focus is still on providing our very best quality and customer service around.
Today
At Spray ‘n Coat Painting, we continue to focus on high-quality workmanship and top-notch customer service. Since every customer has unique concerns and needs, we customize each painting project to give customers the best overall painting solution at the best possible price. To do that, we take the time upfront to discuss the customers’ goals for their project, and strategize how we can best meet those goals and hopefully surpass their expectations.
We don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to painting, but instead we recognize that there are dozens of different types of surfaces that we paint along with different environments and demands. This requires that we be highly educated and well-versed in the dozens of different available products to best meet each specific painting need. As we assess your needs and develop a customized proposal for you, we hope to educate you through the process so that you are able to make educated decisions about maintaining and beautifying your property.
